Tips And Ideas To Celebrate Your Anniversary At Home
If you’re stuck inside during your anniversary, we’ve got some tips and tricks to make sure that your anniversary with your loved one still as special an occasion, if not better than heading out to a restaurant or hotel. I am coming up to my first wedding anniversary, and will be testing a few new tricks to make it memorable.
With a little more time on your hands to think about the detail, here are some creative pointers.
Little things make a big difference when it comes to setting the tone. We want to add extra touches that we wouldn’t usually bother with on a day-to-day basis. Light candles on and around the table. Buy fresh flowers online. Turn down the lights. Play your favourite music (Spotify radio is superb! I love a jazz vibe) and properly lay a place setting with water and wine glasses, cutlery for each course and a napkin; complete with a napkin ring. Don’t forget a table cloth and a scattering of fresh petals. Put away the hand-sanitiser – it’s a real mood kill.
Got spare time in the run up to your anniversary? Each create a video compilation for the other person, comprising of your favourite memories over the past 12 months. iMovie on your phone is easy to use and if you’ve never tried it, you will learn something new. Add your favourite song as the theme tune for extra romance points.
Play these videos to each other before dinner to bring back gone but not forgotten memories. It really sets the mood.
If you’re short on time running in the run up to your special evening, get creative on the night by drawing each other for a bit of fun. Cheesy yes, but spend an hour working on your pieces, and you’ll have a great and/or potentially hysterical memoir of your Covid-19 anniversary together.
Think very carefully about the most delicious three dishes you two have ever eaten together. Choose a starter, main and pudding. They may have been enjoyed on holiday, they may be an old family recipe or perhaps a course from The Ledbury, Sushi Samba Or The Waterside that really made its mark. Perhaps it’s a dish enjoyed on your first ever date.
Now, research some recipes and do your best to recreate the three dishes at home, to live in that happy moment once again.
If you're in London, Covent Garden Market are now delivering fresh food boxes, bought straight from the farm.
Time for a cocktail competition! Each make a recipe and enjoy your cocktails while you watch your homemade movies or throughout your drawing challenge. Rate the following out of ten and see who wins: Taste, Appearance, Creativity. Soho House sell the most diving cocktail making kids. Perhaps it's finally time to learn how to make a Picanté
For dinner, choose paired wines that best compliment each dish. Whoever chooses the wine should talk through the origin, tasting notes and vineyard. It only takes a few minutes and you might learn something new. Try to be and descriptive as possible.
Jump onto Vivino for tasting notes. If you're in London, Drop Wine have a superb selection of bottles, delivered to your door.
